EUROPE PREVIEW: Traders awaiting last big event, 3pm ET ECB Draghi speech at
Jackson Hole Fed conference, and here are more varied views on such:
- TD analysts said of today's Fed Chair Yellen speech (which did not touch
econ/mon pol topics) that "while we are strategic EUR bulls, we think FX markets
may have overreacted to Yellen's speech - on the basis of a lack of hawkish
undertones especially with the market skeptical about future Fed policy already
- particularly with Draghi yet to speak."
- "In light of this, we would not be surprised to see that EUR/USD topside pared
back ahead of Draghi's speech and critical 1.1910 resistance," TD analysts said.
"Above this, would place 1.2040/50: the 2012 lows as the next major topside
attractor. Perhaps then, we may discover the ECB's pain threshold."
- Editorial Network Germany (RND) reports ECB will discuss an exit to QE in
September, and embark on an exit at their October 26 meeting. The article cites
"ECB circles" which was translated on newswires as "central bank officials".
They note that the withdrawal will be slow and gradual. Several strategists told
MNI this is an expected and likely timetable.
