US TSYS: Traders eyed the June TICS data which showed that mainland China at
18.6% now is the No. 1 holder of US Tsys, outpacing Japan, which has 17.7%; in
May TICs, Mainland China had 18.0% while Japan had 18.1%. "They go back and
forth," noted one trader. Mainland China has now $1.146 Trillion in Tsys as of
June, while Japan had $1.090 Trln.
- China increased their bond holdings by the most in 2-Years in May, denoting
the 4th straight increase, but still remained behind Japan up until the most
recent data period. The increase in Chinese holdings of US debt have been
attributed to a bounce in China's FX reserves have risen as China have tried to
curb capital outflows, and as China's defence of the currency has ebbed as they
seek gain recognition as a market economy.
