TTF Remains Weak with Near Normal Storage Injection Rates

NATURAL GAS

Near term European gas markets remain weak with low demand and lack of competition for LNG supplies from Asia enabling the steady restocking of gas storage in Europe despite the ongoing Norway field maintenance. European gas storage injections are maintaining near normal levels so far in May after the slow start to the refilling season in the first half of April.

  • Net European storage injections averaged about 3,300GWh/d so far in May compared to the five year average of 3,340GWh/d.
  • European gas storage is up to 61.76% on 7 May according to GIE data compared to the five year average for this time of year is 42.2% full
  • Injection rates can afford to be below normal compared to historical injection rates and still reach EU storage targets before the start of the winter heating season. However full storage heading into next winter is unlikely to be enough to cover against tight supplies driven by a cold winter or increased global LNG demand driven by Asia.
    • TTF JUN 23 down -2.6% at 35.9€/MWh
    • TTF WIN 23 down -1% at 54.68€/MWh
    • TTF SUM 24 down -1.1% at 52.85€/MWh
