TURKEY: Turkey Arrests Leader of Far-Right Party; National Day of Mourning

- Umit Ozdag, the leader of Turkey's Victory Party, was detained by police on Monday as part of an investigation into allegations that he insulted President Recep Tayyip Erdogan in a speech he delivered a day earlier, AP report. Ozdag is an outspoken critic of Turkey’s refugee policies and has called for the repatriation of millions of Syrian refugees.
- Ekonomi report the Chariman of Turkey’s DEIK, Nail Olpak, as saying that it is difficult to be optimistic until interest rates drop to around 20% - although he added that the possibility doesn’t seem likely this year. He called for the 2% FX support for exports to be increased, especially for SMEs, and for the lifting of 30% FX conversion requirement.
- President Recep Tayyip Erdogan chairs a National Security Council meeting at 13:00GMT/16:00 local time in Ankara. Turkey is observing a day of mourning today after 76 people were killed at a hotel fire.
