TURKEY: CBRT Ends USD 5bn Deposit Transaction with Saudi Fund for Development

  • The CBRT said in a statement that it is reviewing its international deposit transactions to reduce external liabilities as part of its reserve management. Accordingly, the deposit transaction of USD 5bn carried out with the Saudi Fund for Development in 2023 has been terminated by mutual agreement. The central bank adds that external liabilities have recently improved by approximately USD 7bn through the reduction of deposit balances.
  • Turkish newspaper Daily Sabah cited an unidentified source as saying that a meeting between President Erdogan and Syrian President Assad could take place in August in Moscow, with Russian President Putin acting as a mediator. However, Reuters have since reported that such a meeting has not been planned, citing its diplomatic sources.
  • President Erdogan will address his party’s lawmakers this afternoon in parliament. There are no economic releases scheduled for today.
