Turkey in Talks With Exxon for Long Term LNG Supply Deal

Turkey is in talks with ExxonMobil for a multibillion-dollar LNG deal which would help to reduced dependence on Russian energy, according to Reuters citing the Financial Times.

  • The country is looking for a "new supply portfolio" making it less reliant on any single partner, said Turkey's Energy Minister Alparslan Bayraktar. Turkey is highly dependent on oil and gas imports from Russia, Azerbaijan and Iran, as well as LNG from Algeria, Qatar, the United States and Nigeria.
  • The deal under discussion is reported to be for the supply of up to 2.5m tonnes of LNG a year for a decade.
