Turkey's Chief Diplomat Says Some NATO Countries "Want War To Continue"

UKRAINE

Turkish Foreign Minister Cavusoglu told CNN Turk on Wednesday that he believes some NATO countries "want the war to continue, let the war continue and Russia get weaker," referring to his impressions from a NATO foreign ministers' meeting.

  • Cavusoglu noted that Turkish President Erdogan is in constant contact with his Russian and Ukrainian counterparts and will speak to them again in the coming days, reiterating that Turkey's offer to host top-level peace talks remains on the table.
  • Earlier this week, President Erdogan admitted that negotiations between Russia and Ukraine have stalled after the discovery of civillian killings in Bucha, Irpin and Kramatorsk, but he pledged continued efforts to achieve a diplomatic solution.
  • On Wednesday Ukraine proposed holding a special round of negotiations in the besieged seaport city of Mariupol, while UN Secretary General said he will seek meetings with Russian and Ukrainian leaders to give peace talks a fresh impetus.
