Turkish Energy Ties Could Deepen, With Proposals for Fresh Nuclear Site

  • The IAEA have reiterated their call for Russia to end their occupation of the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant - stressing their concerns that a deterioration of safety controls could lead to a plant meltdown. The censure was issued late yesterday - passing a formal resolution in the process - despite IAEA's director general Grossi the day prior noting that Russia is the "Number one vendor of nuclear technology in the world", after holding talks with Putin.
  • Turkey remain in talks with Russia over the prospect of a second nuclear power plant and gas trade hub in the Sinop province - using the working experience used during the construction of the Akkuyu site - which is set to produce its first power later this year.
  • The US Embassy in Moscow has issued a warning to Americans in the country concerning potential for imminent threat of attacks on large gatherings across Moscow in the next 48 hours - advising US citizens to steer clear of such events - without posting further details. The warning was repeated on the British foreign office website, according to RFE.
