Turkish Gas Hub Remains on Agenda: Putin

NATURAL GAS

A Turkish gas hub for redistributing Russian gas remains in the agenda according to Putin on Saturday.

  • "I want to make it clear that this is not oil or an oil storage facility, this is gas. Both we and our Turkish friends know this. We are talking about creating an electronic trading platform. We are not going to store gas there in huge volumes. It's just a convenient place to organize such an electronic trading platform, because Turkey has become a transit country for Europe," Putin explained.
  • The hub is designed to help Russia move gas volumes it can no longer transit via Nord Stream.
  • According to Putin, he and Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan have agreed to hold phone talks on Wednesday.
  • Numerous European leaders have been clear they would not purchase Russian gas from the Turkish hub.
