Turkish Officials To Visit Russia To Discuss Corridor For Ukraine Grain

Kremlin confirms Turkish outlet Hurriyet's earlier story that Turkish military officials would meet with Russian counterparts next week to discuss the possibility of a corridor being created for Ukrainian grain exports to Turkey.

  • Getting Ukrainian grain to Black Sea ports and safely exported to Turkey and beyond has become a key aim for the US and other Western gov'ts in recent weeks, as well as many MENA nations that are reliant on cheap Ukrainian grain.
  • So far, Russia had refused to countenance such a deal unless the West removed sanctions on Russia.
  • Millions of tonnes of Ukrainian grain believed to be sitting in Russian-controlled areas of the country, contributing to a region-wide shortage in supply, which is pushing up food production costs dramatically.
