Tusk Arrives In Kyiv, December Data Dump On Tap

POLAND
  • President Andrzej Duda said that he would pardon convicted Law and Justice (PiS) lawmakers Mariusz Kaminski and Maciej Wasik, who are on a hunger strike, for the second time, if that was necessary to break the ongoing deadlock. His chief aide Marcin Mastalerek later clarified that he was referring to the procedure he has already launched, with the head of state waiting for feedback from the Public Prosecutor General/Justice Minister. In the same interview, Duda described himself as a "moderate politician" and said that he was open to talks with the new ruling coalition.
  • Finance Minister Andrzej Domanski told TVN24 that a dispute between the government and the central bank wouldn't be good for POLGBs and PLN, which is why he needs to "show far-reaching restraint". The official refused to speculate whether the ruling coalition would seek to probe the NBP Governor. Domanski also suggested that the government will unveil the details of its proposal to lower the capital gains tax next month.
  • Prime Minister Donald Tusk has arrived in Kyiv for a previously unannounced visit and will meet with President Volodymyr Zelensky and Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal. Separately, President Duda told FOX News that Russia won't be defeated without continued US aid, while also flagging his good relations with Donald Trump.
  • Development Funds and Regional Policy Minister Katarzyna Pelczynska-Nalecz confirmed that Poland has met the conditions to start receiving EUR76bn from the EU's 2021-2027 cohesion budget.
  • A December package of economic activity data will be published today at 09:00GMT/10:00CET. It includes industrial output, construction output, retail sales, wages and employment.
