Tusk Sworn In As Prime Minister Before Travelling For EU Summit

  • Donald Tusk's Cabinet won a vote of confidence in parliament last night. The new Prime Minister pledged in his exposé to maintain support for Ukraine and cultivate close relations with the US and the EU. He also reaffirmed commitment to implementing key campaign pledges while ensuring fiscal discipline and vowed to hold the outgoing administration to account for the alleged breaches of the law. Tusk's Cabinet will be sworn in by President Andrzej Duda shortly. The Prime Minister is then expected to replace heads of security services, before departing for an EU summit in Brussels.
  • Far-right lawmaker Grzegorz Braun was excluded from yesterday's parliamentary sitting and hit with financial penalties, while his case was referred to the Prosecutor's Office, due to his violent interruption of the Hanukkah ceremony held in parliament's lobby. While all parties condemned the lawmaker's behaviour, the incident delayed yesterday's confidence vote and inspired calls for the ouster of Deputy Speaker Krzysztof Bosak, Braun's colleague from the far-right Confederation party.
