Tusk Warns On Ukraine Situation, Poland Holds Mayoral Run-Offs
POLAND
- An unnamed source from the Presidential Palace told WP.pl that Donald Trump was not initially eager to accept President Andrzej Duda's proposal to meet due to his belief that it would serve him better to spend this time on campaign trail, but his camp was eventually persuaded by Poland's ambassador to the UN. The source also said that Trump did not change his views on Ukraine in the course of the talks.
- Poland scrambled its fighter jets amid heightened activity of the Russian Long-Range Aviation conducting strikes against targets in Ukraine. This comes after Prime Minister Donald Tusk told reporters that yesterday's European Council meeting involved a discussion of security matters with Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelensky dialling in from Kyiv, and warned that the coming weeks may prove decisive.
- Poland will hold mayoral run-offs this Sunday in those municipalities where none of the candidates managed to secure more than 50% of the vote in the first round. Ipsos exit polls for Krakow, Wroclaw and Rzeszow will be published at 20:00BST/21:00CEST on Sunday.
