UK Labour Party Won’t Revoke New Oil and Gas Licences

The Labour Party has indicated that that it will not revoke any of the new North Sea exploration licenses being granted by PM Rishi Sunak, according to the Telegraph.

  • This is despite the party being opposed to any additional exploration licenses in the North Sea
  • Thangam Debbonaire, the shadow leader of the House of Commons, signalled in an interview that no licenses would be rescinded by a labour government, although no new licenses would be granted.
  • UK PM Rishi Sunak announced a wave of new licenses in a bid to boost UK energy independence. He also said that North Sea production would be better environmentally than boosting LNG imports from abroad.
