The UK government is set to announce on Thursday an easing of rules where SMRs can be build in order to hit its climate targets according to The Times. 

  • The UK has currently eight designated sites that are designed for the development of nuclear power plants, including the Hinkley Point and Sizewell sites according to Bloomberg.
  • The government will also examine whether it is possible to fast track the process for safety approvals of new nuclear power plants to reduce construction costs, the Times reported.
  • UK Chancellor Rachel Reeves is expected to use the government’s spending review to announce funding for one of two SMRs designs.
