Ukraine May Extend Russian Gas Transit Beyond 2024

The transit of Russian natural gas via Ukraine is likely to continue beyond this year, when the current deal is set to expire this year, Slovakia’s Prime Minister Robert Fico said.

  • “An agreement arose that the transit of Russian gas through Ukraine will probably continue, which is great news,” Fico said via Facebook.
  • “That means that we in Slovakia will also be able to continue the transit of this gas, which will also benefit Austria and Italy,” Fico said.
  • Gazprom could also maintain supply to willing EU buyers by booking short-term capacity in Ukraine — an option the Russian company can use via capacity auctions according to Energy Aspects.
