Uniper, NewMed Energy Partner On Gas, LNG, Hydrogen Supply

NATURAL GAS

Uniper and NewMed Energy have signed a non-binding MoU to explore possibilities to supply LNG, gas and hydrogen to Germany, Uniper said on Tuesday.

  • The firms investigate supplying natural gas from Israel to Germany in the immediate term, using existing production and transmission infrastructure.
  • They will investigate the feasibility of LNG deliveries from the Leviathan reservoir to Uniper. Deliveries would require an infrastructure expansion of the reservoir as well as liquefaction of the gas at one of the existing facilities in Egypt or at a new-build floating liquefaction facility in Israel.
  • The MoU also includes potential collaboration on blue and green hydrogen and its transportation from Israel to Europe.
  • “This collaboration with NewMed Energy fits our strategy of diversifying our gas supply sources. Sourcing natural gas from offshore Israel has the potential to increase security of supply for Germany”, Niek den Hollander, COO of Uniper said.
