NEW ZEALAND
NEW ZEALAND: Upticks for both tradeables and non-tradeables supported the bounce
in headline inflation in Q1, although the more recent deflationary impulses and
the jump in cigarette & tobacco prices (owing to an annual increase in the
tobacco tax) render the data much less meaningful than in "normal times."
- Stats NZ noted that "measures to slow COVID-19 by closing non-essential
businesses and telling people to stay at home from midnight 25 March, didn't
impact so much on the normal collection of prices this quarter."
