Uruguay May Sell Global Bond This year

  • Uruguay could issue a global bond this year instead of a sustainability-linked bond for as much as $1b, Environment Minister Adrian Pena said at a business event in Montevideo. (Bloomberg)
  • ”There is going to be a bond,” but not necessarily a sustainability bond, Pena said, who is working with the Finance Ministry to craft the so-called SLB.
  • Pena indicated the SLB would pay investors a lower coupon to reward Uruguay if it exceeds environmental targets or a higher coupon if those goals aren’t met. The Government remains concerned about the risk of not meeting those targets.
  • Pena added the Government will decide its international debt funding strategy soon.
