US Base Hit With Rocket Fire In Iraq

MIDEAST

US-led coalition spokesman Colonel Wayne Marotto that the al-Asad airbase in Anbar province, Iraq, has been hit with five 122mm rockets. No casualties have been reported.

  • Marotto tweeted: "Initial report: At 1335 local time, Ain Al-Asad Air Base (AAAB) was attacked by one rocket round. No injuries reported. Damage is being assessed. The attack is under investigation, for more information see @SecMedCell or @IraqiSpoxMODOIR. Each attack against the GoI, KRG and Coalition undermines the authority of Iraqi institutions, the rule of law and Iraqi national sovereignty."
  • The base houses Iraqi troops as well as forces from the US and the UK.
  • The site was previously attacked with rockets in 2020 in retaliation to the assassination of Iranian IRGC Quds Force commander Qasem Soleimani by US drone strike.
