US Cooling Demand 10 Degree Days Above Normal: Bloomberg

US cooling demand in heating degree days was 10 above the norm for the week to June 8, according to Bloomberg.

  • This shows that demand was stronger than the historical average for last week, adding support to natural gas prices.
  • Cooling degree days measure energy demand to cool buildings. It is the number of degrees that the mean daily temperature is above a 65-degree Fahrenheit base. Greater numbers mean warmer temperatures.
  • All US regions saw above normal cooling demand, with the greatest in the Southwest Central and Mountain regions, 19-degree days above the norm.
  • The Pacific and Northeast Central regions had the smallest deviations, just 3 days above the norm.
