US Heat Wave Sets Record in Central Northeast: Reuters

US cities are breaking decades-old temperature records this week as a heatwave stretches across the central and eastern parts of the country, according to Reuters, citing the National Weather Service.

  • Around 80m people are within the region affected by the heat wave.
  • Detroit and Philadelphia, as well as cities in New Hampshire, Connecticut and Maine are also due for record temperatures in the coming days, NWS meteorologist Marc Chenard said.
  • Higher temperatures are widely expected to further increase air conditioning demand across the US, which will continue to support natural gas demand during the coming days.
  • Bloomberg also noted that forecasts have shifted warmer for parts of the eastern and southern USA for the period June 28-July 2.
