US Heating Demand Forecast 60 HDD Below Normal

Heating demand across the US for the week ending Feb. 10 is set be 60 heating degree days (HDD) below the long-term normal, according to Bloomberg.

  • This week’s forecast HDD is 134 compared to the long-term normal of 194 for this period in the year.
  • It is also down from 150 the previous week.
  • The region with the largest deviation from the normal is the central region, set to be 161 compared to a normal of 280.
  • Minnesota is the state with the largest deviation, at 189 compared to a normal for this period of 359 HDD.
  • HDD measures the number of degrees (Fahrenheit) that the mean daily temperature is below 65 degrees Fahrenheit. The values are summed for an entire week’s HDD. Greater values mean colder temperatures and more demand for heating.
