US heating demand for the week ending Jan. 4 is forecast to be 55 heating degree days (HDD) below the long-term normal, according to Bloomberg, citing NOAA.

  • This week’s total forecast for HDD is 150, compared to a normal of 205 and down from the actual figure of 171 from last week.
  • The regions with the largest deviation from the normal are New England 95 HDD below normal, Middle Atlantic 77 HDD below, and E N Central 62 HDD below.
  • In terms of states with the greatest deviations, Vermont is forecast to be 110 HDD below normal, followed by Maine at 108 HDD below and Connecticut 99 HDD below normal.
  • During the week to Dec. 28, the US was 28 HDD below normal.
  • W N Central was 92 HDD below normal but New England was 38 HDD above normal.
