US Producers Yet to Respond to High Prices

ENERGY – What to Watch

  • The latest US drilling productivity report will be released by EIA later today at 19:00BST. US production has yet to respond to the higher market prices with EIA data showing oil unchanged since mid April and gas production just creeping higher over recent months. US Treasury Secretary Yellen last week said that oil producers now have incentives to increase production. Baker Hughes data released late Friday showed a resumption of the increase in oil rig counts after stalling in previous weeks. Oil rigs were up 6 to 580 and but gas rigs were unchanged at 151.
  • Later this week sees the release of the latest OPEC and IEA monthly reports. The reports may help to provide some understanding of the current and expected market balance. The reports will detail forecasts for the coming months, with high uncertainty over both supply and demand.
