US Sanctions Aim to Reduce Iran Exports by 400kbpd: Rapidan Energy

US authorities have tightened enforcement of sanctions on Iran's oil and petrochemical sales as Iran continues to advance its nuclear program.

  • The administration has set a goal of reducing Iran's crude and condensate exports by 400kb/d over the coming months to 1mb/d according to analysts at Rapidan Energy Group.
  • Oil smuggling networks have allowed Iran to continue generating oil revenue in contravention of US-imposed sanctions on the country's oil sector.
  • The latest sanctions, according to the US State Department on 2 March, crack down on six companies and 20 vessels that have facilitated Iran's energy exports.
  • Crude oil production was at 2.557mbpd in Jan 23 according to the most recent OPEC monthly oil report.
