US To Deploy B-52 Strategic Bomber To South Korea

NORTH KOREA

The US Forces Korea (USFK) announced in a statement that a B-52 strategic bomber will land at a South Korean air base later this week, boosting deterrence against North Korean missile and nuclear threats.

  • Long-range bombers capable of carrying nuclear weapons flew over the Korean peninsula during military drills in the past, but this will be the first time that the B-52 Stratofortress will land in South Korea.
  • The USFK said that the B-52 will arrive during the Seoul International Aerospace and Defense Exhibition starting on Tuesday and will conduct two flyovers during the event. Its deployment comes as nuclear-powered aircraft carrier USS Ronald Reagan left the seaport of Busan today.
