US Urges China to Help Curb Houthi’s Red Sea Attacks

The US has asked China to urge Tehran to rein in Iran-backed Houthi rebels who are attacking commercial ships in the Red Sea, according to the FT.

  • However, they have seen little sign of help from Beijing, the FT added.
  • The attacks on shipping, said to be targeting vessels linked to Israel, the US, or the UK, have caused tankers to divert from the area.
  • Vortexa said Jan. 22 that dirty tanker transits were down 25% while product transits were down 50%. There are also no LNG carriers moving through the Red Sea.
