DOLLAR-CANADA
DOLLAR-CANADA: USD/CAD has shed 50 pips or so over the last 30 minutes, with
little in the way of headline catalysts noted & even with oil holding near
session lows. Rate last deals 30 pips softer on the day at C$1.3599 as NZD & AUD
recover to a degree vs. USD. USD/CAD hit session highs of C$1.3656 on the back
of the soft Chinese Caixin manufacturing PMI print (with broader risk-off flows
apparent). Monday saw USD/CAD hit a fresh cycle high of C$1.3665, with bulls
looking for a close above here (there was brief spike above in very thin
conditions on Jan 1), with any breach set to switch topside focus to the 61.8%
retracement level at C$1.3686, ahead of the May 2017 highs at C$1.3793. Rate is
pressing initial support noted at Friday's low of C$1.3595, with a brief look
below noted; any consolidation below here opens up the Dec 27 low at C$1.3567.
- Canadian labour market data, due Friday, headlines the CA economic docket this
week.
