DOLLAR-CANADA
DOLLAR-CANADA: USD/CAD shed 11 pips overnight and last deals at C$1.3286, as CAD
garnered some support from the broader risk-on theme, as the the U.S. and China
reportedly near a trade deal, while USD was limited by the impact of weekend
comments from U.S. President Trump, who said that the greenback is too strong
and criticised FOMC policy under Powell.
- As a reminder, on Sunday Huawei CFO Meng, currently detained by Ottawa, sued
the Canadian gov't for infringing her constitutional rights, while Canada began
proceedings towards her extradition to the U.S.
- Bears look to the 100-DMA at C$1.3268 and a breach of that level would open up
the Feb 22 high of C$1.3242. Conversely, bulls need to clear the 50-DMA at
C$1.3297 before challenging C$1.3319, which represents the 55-DMA.
- The Canadian docket this week is headlined by the BoC MonPol decision due
Wednesday, while domestic labour mkt data comes out on Friday. Elsewhere, BoC
Dep Gov Patterson will speak on Thursday.
