USDCAD Hits New Session Lows After Clearance Of Another Resistance Level

CANADA
  • USDCAD touched new session lows of 1.3703 on firmer oil/equities and the USD dipping before quickly ticking higher as volatility remains.
  • Prior strength for the pair means it’s only back into yesterday’s range and remains far off support at 1.3560 (Sep 26 low), with potential help in that direction from the week's large narrowing in Can-US yield differentials (2Y diff -36bps from Monday’s close of -51bps).
  • However, an earlier high of 1.3832 easily cleared resistance at 1.3822 (2.764 proj of Aug-Sep price swing) and could pave the way higher in the event of more hawkish Fedspeak after large declines in nominal and real Tsy yields alike.
