USDCAD Nudging Session Highs, Retail Sales Eyed

  • USDCAD briefly touched a new session high of 1.3535 (+0.4%) along with the push lower in S&P e-mini, but with CAD outperforming Antipodeans.
  • It earlier cleared resistance at the 50-day EMA of 1.3526, opening 1.3554 (Apr 10 high) and 1.3582 (50% retrace of Mar 10-Apr 14 bear leg).
  • Retail sales headline the local docket, with last month’s advance pencilling in -0.6% M/M in Feb after a strong +1.4% in Jan. CIBC look for a heavier -1.0% M/M but in part on pullback in autos and lower gasoline prices, with core and volumes measures looking a little better. It will be followed by flash US PMIs.
