USDCAD Plateaus As CAD Shifts To Underperforming

  • USDCAD plateaus around the 1.33 handle it first touched in the second half of yesterday’s session after weaker than expected US data and broadly in line monthly GDP.
  • Having gained on most crosses yesterday, CAD for the most part underperforms amidst broader USD weakness.
  • The pair sits in the middle of a tight 35 pip range. Moving average studies highlight a bearish theme with support seen at the session low of 1.3289 before the bear trigger of 1.3226 (Nov 15 low). Resistance seen at yesterday’s high of 1.3472.
  • A solid US docket and of course the FOMC decision later likely dominate but locally there is also the Jan PMI at 0930ET.
