USDCAD Poised With BoC's Macklem Eyed

CANADA
  • USDCAD pulls 20pips off session highs of 1.3685 having moved closer to initial resistance at yesterday’s high of 1.3696, clearance of which could open the bull trigger of 1.3838 (Sep 30 high).
  • CAD sits mid-pack of majors, with little new impetus with oil only slightly retracing strong gains early in the week.
  • Front end yield differentials have narrowed notably over the week although the Canadian front end is still more than 25bps below that of the US.
  • A hawkish appearance from BoC’s Macklem (remarks published 1135ET followed by Q&A appearances) could help this narrow further, with room for the pair to fall with Tue-Wed lows of 1.3503-04 and firmer support not until the 20-day EMA of 1.3466. However, any moves are likely limited coming ahead of US and Canadian payrolls tomorrow.
