USDCAD Struggles To Break Higher

CANADA
  • USDCAD has pulled back from highs of 1.2593 as dollar strength since the US came in has largely receded and oil has bounced, but is still up +0.55% at 1.2545.
  • The move higher on the day is likely from the sizeable outperformance of Canadian rates, which has also driven a narrowing in what had been a small positive Can-US yield differential at both the front- and long-end.
  • The pair sits near yesterday’s highs but having fallen for 12 of the past 13 sessions and still down more than 2.5% in three weeks, it doesn’t yet trouble resistance at 1.2614 (200-day MA) or 1.2651 (20-day EMA). Key support remains at the Jan'19 low of 1.2454.
