USDMXN Extends Losing Streak

  • USDMXN fell for the sixth straight session on Friday and has continued its descent to start this week, off 0.2% at 19.8880.
  • Investors Cut Bearish MXN Bets: CFTC data shows a decrease of bearish positioning. Non-commercial investors were short MXN to the tune of 21,043 contracts as of Aug. 31 vs 23,830 short contracts a week prior. Both leveraged funds and institutional investors increased their long MXN positions according to the report.
  • Notable horizontal supports appear very much back in play as we approach Thursday's August CPI data, that will prove very important for Banxico governing board members as their September 30 meeting looms. 19.8004 will be the first hurdle for MXN longs, the July 30 low.
  • Mexico's gross fixed investment is expected to have increased 17.6% y/y in June, down from a previous 46.5% rise, according to economists surveyed by Bloomberg. National statistics agency to release data at 1200BST/0700ET.
