USMCA In Focus, Retail Sales Data On Friday

  • Negotiations with North American counterparts will come back into focus given next week’s expected resolution on the USMCA’s auto sector rules panel, and the possible early agreement over Mexico’s energy policies consultation request.
  • Up to this point, trade authorities have not made any official announcements regarding either issue, however, according to press reports Mexico’s economy ministry have suggested an agreement on energy has the potential to be reached during the preliminary sessions.
    • A very light data schedule this week, with June Retail Sales scheduled for release on Friday.
  • Hundreds of Mexican military troops were flown into Tijuana on Saturday to beef up street patrols after armed gangs hijacked and burned at least a dozen vehicles in the border city, the latest in a wave of attacks hitting civilians across the country. (BBG)
  • Credito Real SAB de CV, the non-bank lender that has been negotiating payments to lenders after moving to liquidate its liabilities, will have an extraordinary general meeting.
