Won is weaker at the open, adding to Friday's losses with chatter of local importers buying USD. USD/KRW last up 0.60 at 1177.30. The pair sees support at a 23.6% retracement level 1161.50.

  • On the coronavirus front there were 2,383 new cases in the past 24 hours, the spike in new cases triggered health authorities' jitters over a possible shortage of hospital beds for treating seriously ill virus patients and the government is said to be mulling further tightening of social distancing rules. Health authorities plan to announce their Q4 vaccination plan later today after cases rose above 3,000 last week following the Chuseok holidays. The PM spoke over the weekend and said South Korea will still be able to carry out its plan for a phased return to normal life, starting in late October, despite the recent surge in infections.
