POWER: Vattenfall CEO Urges to Europe to Increase Transmission Capacity

Europe needs to increase its power transmission capacity to ensure energy security, Vattenfall’s CEO Anna Borg said, cited by Reuters. 

  • “Both from a sort of independence perspective and the security perspective, because also in the geopolitical context, there is a need to be more self-sufficient in Europe in general”, Borg said.
  • Borg added that Europe also needs more fossil-fuel free generation capacity. She warned that the demand outlook is currently challenging, with some companies holding back on investment due to an uncertain market and political environment.
  • Vattenfall plans to spend 170bn Swedish Krona (€15bn) over the next five years on new wind power and grid projects and the planning of new nuclear generation capacity.
