Venezuela Attempts Measures to Satisfy Sanctions Relief

Banned Venezuelan opposition candidates barred from public office will be able to appear before the country's top tribunal, which will rule on their bans according to the Venezuelan government.

  • The announcement came late Thursday, on the deadline from the US to remove bans or risk energy sanctions being reimposed.
  • Banned candidates can make their petitions between Dec. 1 and Dec. 15, according to the statement.
  • Reuters reported earlier this week that the government could allow appeals to advance as a way to partially comply with US demands and try and stop any sanctions relief being reversed.
  • The markets await a clear response from US officials about whether these measures will satisfy requirements.
