Venture Global Seek Calcasieu Permit Extension

LNG

Venture Global LNG has sought a one-year permit extension to complete construction of its Calcasieu Pass project in Louisiana.

  • Its existing authorization expires February 21 but the company says its commissioning stage will not be completed until late this year.
  • It says that faulty power equipment has delayed the facilities commissioning.
  • Shell, BP, Galp and others have complained that the facility is operating, and they are entitled to contract volumes from the facility. Venture Global says they are unable to provide them while the facility is in a commissioning phase.
  • "Calcasieu Pass has long been in commercial operation and has produced at or above nameplate capacity for more than a year, exporting LNG cargoes every three to five days, for a total of more than 250 cargoes worth billions of dollars," the Shell spokesperson said.
  • Venture Global LNG separately asked federal regulators to approve construction of its Calcasieu Pass 2 export plant at their meeting next month.
