Verbund Increased Hedging Volumes at Lower Prices

Verbund hedged around 88% of its planned hydropower output of 27.2TWh for 2024 at an average price of €123/MWh as of the end of the second quarter, the firm said.

  • As of the end of the first quarter, Verbund had hedged around 77% of its planned hydropower output of 27TWh for this year at an average price of €129.5/MWh.
  • For 2025, the utility hedged 13.2TWh of its planned output of 25.7TWh at an average price of €121.9/MWh as of the end of June.
  • As of the end of March, Verbund had hedged 11.5TWh of its planned output of 25.6TWh in 2025 at an average price of €126.6/MWh.
  • For 2026, Verbund has hedged 8.5TWh of the planned output of 25.7TWh at an average price of €78.7/MWh as of the end of Q2, compared with 8.2TWh hedged at €79.4/MWh a quarter earlier.
  • Separately, Verbund’s 480MW Limberg 3 pumped storage power plant in Austria will start commercial operations in 2025. Two smaller plants will also start operations this year.
