Vietnam Purchase First LNG Cargo

Vietnam has purchased its first ever LNG shipment after a tender from PetroVietnam Gas JSC for a cargo to be delivered to the new Thi Vai terminal around June-July. The cargo was purchased at about 10$/mmbtu according to Bloomberg sources.

  • The company expects to begin delivering gas to customers from July according to their website.
  • The start of imports has been boosted by the falling gas prices and continued growth is likely to depend in large part on price levels.
  • Vietnam this month approved a power plan to boost wind energy and gas while reducing reliance on coal. The plan would see a fourfold increase in gas fired power plant installed capacity by 2030 with most from LNG.
