Waiting For NBP Monetary Policy Decision

POLAND
  • The main event in Poland this week is NBP monetary policy decision, which will be announced on Thursday and followed by a press conference on Friday (see our preview here). Virtually all analysts expect the central bank to keep interest rates unchanged. The focus will be on rhetoric and updated macroeconomic projections. Deputy Finance Minister Artur Sobon said this morning that the central bank is unlikely to lower interest rates this week, but the decision sits with the Monetary Policy Council.
  • A parliamentary committee is expected to start debating the proposal to increase monthly payments under the child benefit scheme to PLN800 per child from the current PLN500. Tomorrow, another committee will discuss a bill regulating the division of prerogatives in shaping EU policy between the President and the Cabinet.
