Week Ahead: Focus on Brazilian CPI Inflation Data

  • In Brazil, February CPI inflation will be the focus, ahead of the next BCB monetary policy meeting on March 20. Mexico January IP, Argentina February CPI and Peru January economic data will also cross. Meanwhile, the BCB, BCCh and BanRep all publish their latest economist surveys.
    • Mexico ANTAD same-store sales for February and Colombia February consumer confidence will be released on Monday.
    • Brazil IPCA inflation data for February will be the focus on Tuesday, with consensus for a slight moderation in the annual rate of inflation to 4.45% y/y, from 4.51%. The BCB will also publish its weekly Focus survey, while in Chile the central bank will release its latest economist survey. Elsewhere, Mexico January IP will cross and Argentina February CPI inflation data will be released, with another double-digit m/m gain expected.
    • On Thursday, Brazilian retail sales growth is expected to edge up to 1.7% y/y in January, from 1.3% in December.
    • Peru economic activity data for January are published on Friday. Activity unexpectedly fell by 0.7% y/y in December, but looks set to rebound in January. Colombia January IP and retail sales data are also released, alongside the latest BanRep economists survey, ahead of the following week’s MPC meeting.
