Weekly Consumer Confidence Consolidates Prior Jump

  • The Bloomberg Nanos consumer confidence index edged 0.2pts higher to 50.4 in the week to Apr 21.
  • It consolidates the prior week’s jump higher for the largest weekly gain since Feb’22 and sees the second net positive reading since June, although outright confidence remains clearly below pre-pandemic levels.
  • As opposed to last week’s broad improvement, this time gains were focused in the net share expecting real estate prices to rise over the next six months. It came despite current job security and forward looking economic perceptions fading slightly.
