Weekly Global LNG Imports Rebound as Exports Remain Unchanged: BNEF

Global LNG imports rebounded 18% in the week to June 16 to 7.66m metric tons, according to BNEF driven by an increase in deliveries to both Japan and mainland China.

  • Imports to Japan more than doubled to 1.38m tons from the lowest since May 2023 of 0.63m tons the previous week but Jun 1-16 volumes were still 11% down y/y. Mainland China imports also rose by 0.43m tons on the week but June 1-16 volumes were 7% below last year.
  • Deliveries to South Asian fell by 0.09 and to Southeast Asia fell by 0.21m tons w/w from a record high last week. Deliveries into Northwest Europe and Italy and the rest of Europe each increased by just over 0.1m tons.
  • Global LNG exports were almost unchanged on the week at 7.69m tons. Shipments from Qatar fell by two or 0.14m tons while Russia increased by 0.07m tons.
  • US and Australia exports were mostly unchanged while the Chevron-operated Wheatstone project in Australia shipped one cargo amid ongoing repairs to its offshore platform.
