What to watch

  • Today the focus will be on final service PMI prints with Eurozone retail sales and US factory sales also due for release. The highlight of the day's data calendar is probably the US ISM services print.
  • Today will also see a number of Fed speakers in the afternoon: Bullard, Harker, Daly, Barkin and Kashkari are all due to make appearances today.
  • The market is also looking forward to the other big events of the week. We see a 70% probability that the Bank of England will raise Bank Rate by 50bp tomorrow. And we also hope for more details on the plans for active gilt sales, although a vote on the implementation of those is not expected until the September MPC meeting. We released our full BOE preview yesterday which includes the summaries of over 20 sell side analysts, it is available here.
  • The market also looks ahead to the US employment report on Friday.
