What to Watch: Debt Ceiling and Fed Speak

Treasury futures are paring back overnight gains, 30Y Bonds mildly weaker at the moment. With no data Monday, focus is split between Fed speakers and any chatter over debt ceiling after negotiations broke off late last Friday.
  • On the latter, talks resumed late Sunday while President Biden and House Speaker McCarthy are expected to have face to face discussion this afternoon (no set time), see 0625ET bullet for more.
  • Fed speakers kicked off with MN Fed Kashkari, while the CNBC interview was unscheduled, comments largely echoed Sunday WSJ article: that he is "open to the idea that we can move a little bit more slowly from here", the focus is on "I would object to any kind of declaration that we're done."
  • Coming up at 0830 StL Fed Bullard fireside chat, Am Gas Assn Fncl Forum, no media followed by Atlanta Fed Bostic and Richmond Fed Barkin attending a tech conf at 1105ET while SF Fed Daly moderated Q&A BoF economic symposium at the same time. Minutes for the May FOMC schedule to be released this Wednesday.
