Wind Makes Up a Third of Ireland’s Gen Mix in 1H 24

Wind made up around 34% of Ireland’s power generation in 1H 2024, with the technology meeting 25% of its domestic power demand, data from Wind Energy Ireland show.

  • Wind output totaled 771GWh in June 2024 up from just above 500GWh in May.
  • Wind increased its share of Ireland’s power demand by 5 percentage points on the year in June, with solar and other renewables meeting 8%.
  • A recent report by Wind Energy indicated a rising risk of several wind farms being shut down before the end of the decade unless changes are made, with 854MW ending their planning permissions between 2024-2030.
